I joined LinkedIn in 2005 and Twitter in 2008 and started to explore the value of all Social Media opportunities. Looking to see how it could be used by businesses.
I had been reading numerous US based marketing blogs and they were looking at Social Media from a marketing perspective. Typical really, marketers finding places where people were “meeting” and looking to put their clients in front of them.
I could see the value in this and started to talk to my clients, both 1-to-1 and at marketing events. I think I was a bit early. Most people thought I’d taken a knock to the head!
I persevered and slowly saw Social Media penetrate deeper in to business marketing, helped by the 2008 recession. Rather than completely cutting marketing budgets, businesses were looking for ways to market smarter. This is where Social Media came in. Effective, less expensive and a great way to start conversations. A poor place to actually make sales – remember that.
Today, I help clients across a broad range of Social activities, from Linkedin and Twitter through YouTube and beyond.
